Let's talk about Gut Health! For those who have been following me for a while, you would have seen me mention this beautiful lady before. I started seeing Jaya a few years ago after suffering from gut issues basically my whole life. I used to get stomach pains every day, I was sore, I was bloated, I didn’t want to do anything, I wasn’t in a happy place and I didn’t have a great relationship with food or my body.
After contacting Jaya and seeing her for a colonic, I felt like that changed everything for me. Colonics really helped me get my gut back in order and what she has taught me about food & the way our body digests it etc has to lead me into a healthier lifestyle & a healthy relationship with food and my body. I now treat it with respect and fuel it with good nutritious food (most of the time). So, thank you Jaya for helping me in healing my gut! I am still on the journey, but I feel so much better since I started paying attention & looking after it properly.
Jaya runs gut health seminars and has an Instagram where she posts a lot of valuable information. I strongly recommend following her & attending one of her seminars. I will put her website at the bottom of this blog.
I hope you enjoy it.
- For people that don’t know exactly what a Colon Therapist is can you please explain what it is? A Colon Therapist is someone who administers Colonics! A Colonic (or colon hydrotherapy) is a natural, holistic treatment that removes waste (faeces) from the Colon via the rectum.
- How long have you been doing this for? I have been a Colon Therapist for over 4 years now.

- Where does your passion for gut health come from? I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and Coeliac Disease is 2012 after a lifetime of gut issues, however, being diagnosed did very little to persuade me to make any changes - even with horrendous bloating and digestive issues. In 2013 my brother was diagnosed with Liver Cancer - my gut issues and his illness, even though we were both so young and only in our 20s, made me realise we had been living a life of unhealthiness and it prompted me to start researching the effects of unhealthy eating and my interest grew rapidly from there. My brother sadly passed away from Cancer which made me even more passionate to share his story and how our gut health is so important in the prevention of disease, quality of life and longevity and vitality,
- How does the food we eat affect our mental health? In short - Dopamine and Serotonin, our feel-good hormones are created in the gut via our gut microbiome - a cleaner, healthier gut helps to facilitate the production of these hormones and reduce cortisol levels

Why are colonics important & any advice for people wanting to find a colon therapist in other states? What should they look for? We live in an inherently toxic world teamed with unhealthy and stressful lifestyles so colonics play an important role in reducing the toxin load in your body - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. A toxic body can and will lead to an array of health issues, ailments and assaults to the body. When finding a clinic there are a few things to look for - that the clinic uses gravity fed water, that the therapist is present at all times facilitating the colonic whilst massaging your tummy and that the system is a “closed” system, - this is important for hygiene.
-
What can beginners do to get started in gut health, what can they change? Change the mindset that good gut health means they are going to be deprived. A gut-friendly diet is delicious, abundant and fulfilling. One physical change you can make is to include more water in the diet - this is something so overlooked, and I believe the majority of my clients are chronically dehydrated.

-
What is your take on the diets that we are seeing more of – Keto, Paleo etc? I am a huge advocate of Paleo and Ketogenic diets - and this is coming from an ex Vegetarian and Vegan of 17 years! It is fantastic to see so many people start to embrace healthy fats like bone broth into their diets for vibrant health and wellness.
-
I am a big lover of bone broth since you got me onto it. Can you explain what the benefits of bone broth are? Bone broth is rich in nutrients that support gut healing, the immune system and strong bones, glowing skin and strong hair and nails. Bone Broth contains healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline. It also helps to keep you feeling full and can be used in many versatile ways. Bone broth is also a fantastic anti-inflammatory food!
-
Best advice you have been given? To set boundaries.
-
If people could take anything from this interview, what is the one thing you would want them to know? That vibrant health is not just about eating healthily and exercising - our emotions play the biggest role in our health - both positively and negatively.
